Most college coding contests get organized once, run once, and disappear. The intent is right โ expose students to competitive coding โ but the format is loose, the evaluation is subjective, and there's no real outcome for the students who compete.
X-Factor Coding Competitions fix that. The Campus Coding League is a proven, plug-and-play format built to be run repeatedly, with automatic evaluation, structured rewards, and real student outcomes. Colleges don't have to design the event โ we bring the format, the platform, the rules, and the rewards. The college brings the students.

About The Program
A ready-to-deploy coding contest program for engineering and degree colleges. The flagship format โ Campus Coding League โ has been designed, tested, and delivered at Mohan Babu University (Tirupati), and can be replicated on any campus with modest infrastructure.
Every competition is designed around three principles: fair automatic evaluation, real student outcomes, and a follow-up learning path. Students don't just compete and go home โ they leave with something to work on next.
Our Day Zero Approach
Before the competition runs, we understand the students โ their year, their programming exposure, the departments participating โ and align on contest pattern, difficulty, and rewards with the department.
A first-year batch getting their first taste of competitive coding doesn't get the same paper as a final-year batch preparing for placements. The format is flexible; the discipline is not.

X-Factor's proven coding contest format โ fair, automatic, and outcome-driven. Every element, from platform choice to evaluation to rewards, is structured before the event starts.
Contest Pattern
- MCQs on core computer science subjects
- 5 coding questions โ student's choice of Java, C++, or Python
- 1 SQL question
- Difficulty: Easy to Medium, calibrated to the college's year group
- Fully automatic evaluation โ no manual grading, no subjective bias
Platform
- HackerRank (free online platform)
- Mode: Online โ conducted within college premises for supervised fairness
- Every student gets a private contest link and their own submission log
Event Flow
Before The Event
- Department approval and permission letter finalized
- Registration link shared with participating students
- Contest link, rules, and platform guide sent to registrants
- Test round scheduled to verify infrastructure and access
On The Event Day
- Registration verification and seating
- Rules briefing and platform walk-through
- MCQ round โ timed
- Coding round โ timed, with SQL question included
- Automatic evaluation and immediate result publication
After The Event
- Top performers recognized on stage โ Top 3 winners, Top 5 for internship interviews, Top 10 for the AI membership discount
- Bonus Day 2 workshop delivered for all participants
- Department receives event documentation and result summary
Rules & Guidelines
Eligibility
- Open to students of the participating department(s), across the years selected
- Every student registers individually โ competition is individual, not team-based
During The Contest
- Students appear on-premises in the department's supervised lab
- Any communication between students during the contest leads to disqualification
- Late entry is not permitted once the contest window has started
AI & Internet Usage Policy
Given how central AI tools have become to how students code, the policy is explicit โ not implied. Not permitted during the contest:
- Use of AI assistants โ ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Cursor, and similar tools
- Use of external code references, Stack Overflow, or search engines
- Any access beyond the HackerRank platform itself
Any violation flagged by supervisors or platform monitoring leads to immediate disqualification โ this is what makes the results defensible.
Evaluation Process
- MCQ round scored automatically by the platform based on correct answers
- Coding submissions evaluated against pre-defined test cases โ correctness, edge cases, output format
- SQL query evaluated against expected result sets
- Highest-scoring submission per question is counted across multiple attempts
- Final score combines MCQ, coding, and SQL sections
- Platform results are considered final โ no manual re-evaluation
Winner Finalization
- Total platform score determines the ranking
- Tie-breaker 1 โ Higher score on the coding round
- Tie-breaker 2 โ Earlier final submission time
- Tie-breaker 3 โ Higher score on the SQL question
The winner list is finalized by X-Factor and shared with the Faculty Coordinator and HOD for approval before announcement.
10%
Department Development Fund Contribution
Coding competitions run under the X-Factor format include a built-in revenue-share: 10% of total registration revenue is contributed back to the department, to be used for departmental or student-related activities under the HOD's guidance.
The department earns while the students learn.
What We Need From The College
- A computer lab or classroom with enough systems for the participating batch
- Stable internet connection and uninterrupted power supply
- A supervising faculty coordinator and 2โ3 student coordinators
- Department approval and a signed permission letter
- A projector or display for the announcement session at the end
